EARTH DAY 2016

EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS

22ND APRIL, 2016

ORGANISED BY THE GREEN MOVEMENT

"Those who contemplate on the beauty of the Earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts because in every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks.”

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on 22nd April, on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970 and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.

"Look deep into Nature, and then you will understand everything better"- with this maxim as our motto, we the members of The Green Movement successfully carried out the Earth Day  Celebrations on 22nd April, 2016, demonstrating our support for environmental protection. Our aim this year was to actively involve the entire High School to contribute in a small way, towards making people aware of the importance of celebrating Earth Day. Keeping this thought in mind, classes 6-10 and 12, were requested to make charts on the theme: ‘Save Mother Earth’. Each section prepared four charts each, according to the Four Houses of the school. The students responded well and the various charts were then displayed on all the ground floor notice boards. The beautifully displayed charts, depicting various messages on how to save Mother Earth surely helped in making us all aware on how important it is to take care of Mother Earth.

We also organized an Inter-Class Poster Making Competition for classes 6, 7 and 8 on 22nd April, in which the students, actively and willfully, participated. The winners as well as all the other students did a commendable job depicting through their posters the theme for the Earth Day Celebrations 2016, which was ‘Trees For The Earth’. The event was a huge success thanks to the efforts of our Group Animators, Group members and the School Management.

Duringthis Earth Day Celebration we helped the students to reflect on what we could do to make our planet a more sustainable and livable place. It was indeed a wonderful experience as we stopped and appreciated our Global Home and the amazing gifts that Mother Nature has given us.
